Set yourself apart from the crowd!

Why should I take CAI?

  • Demonstrate your unique abilities, skills, and goals to admissions officers
  • Establish your application as genuine during a time when concerns about application integrity and authenticity are growing
  • Set yourself apart from other applicants in a highly selective and competitive application environment

More than ever, U.S. colleges, universities and some private high schools require interviews as part of the application process. These face-to-face meetings help admissions officers get to know each applicant in a more comprehensive way, allowing institutions to distinguish between the thousands of admissions applications they receive each year.

Through the CIEE Applicant Interview (CAI), CIEE helps Chinese students put their best foot forward during the interview and application process—helping to set you apart from the crowd.

How does CAI work?

CIEE cooperates with leading U.S. schools to offer in-person student interviews and evaluations in China. We’ll sit down with you and ask you a variety of questions about your schooling, your educational and career ambitions, and your goals for studying in the U.S. Following the interview, we’ll write up an impartial assessment based on your communication skills, critical thinking abilities, leadership qualities, and personality—all elements that are difficult to demonstrate through standard admissions applications and essays. The results of your interview, as well as an evaluative report, an interview video, and a writing sample, are then sent to your chosen list of schools as part of your admissions application. It’s that easy!

Who can benefit from CAI?

Grade 12

The CAI is ideal for students who are applying to U.S. universities. Results from the face-to-face interview can be sent to the applicant’s chosen list of U.S. universities as part of the standard admissions application process.

Grade 9, 10 and 11

CAI is useful for grades 9, 10 and 11 students who are planning ahead. An in-person interview in grade 11 will help you get a jump on next year’s admissions process.

Which U.S. colleges and universities accept CAI?

Most colleges and universities in the U.S. accept the CAI assessment report as supplementary material to the admissions application. However, it is up to the discretion of each college or university’s admissions officers when deciding how to use the CAI assessment report.
